They charge that price for a lot of reasons, most of the charging ports for
the house look nice, will help when selling the house, are UL approved, have
a sensing circuit for safety, have a warranty, have insurance in case your
house burns down if it fails (liability insurance), has a 18-20' expensive
flexible cable and J1772 plug, etc. If you have a charging station you built
without a approval, watch out. In some areas it is criminal to install
without the approvals and permit. A few people have and are in trouble for
installing the "juice box". Also, does anybody know what the going rate of a
electrician is today? You don't want to know. I have a customer who paid
$250 to one installed, and complained. By the way, the customer made $250k
last year in wages and $100k towards his k401. Now you know why they charge
those prices.
