The second sentence is the answer to the first. In fact you're lucky that ANY cells stay "sealed." I have never had good luck with ganged caps. I've heard that US Battery will sell you the caps as retrofits, but I have no idea who you'd contact about purchasing them. Every time I recycle a battery with separate cell caps, I save the caps, and use them on any ganged-cap batteries I happen to get.
