I'd expect any vehicle modification that increases the frontal area of a vehicle, while holding all other factors constant, to result in increased drag and increased energy consumption (and reduced range). Simply raising a vehicle increases frontal area by virtue of the tires being more exposed. The efficiency differences are magnified at higher speeds.
