Cor, Note that the original Gen 1 Leaf (Panasonic) EVSE is J1772 non-compliant (doesn't generate the negative-going pilot signal). Many EVs will reject this pilot signal. The G2 unit (slimmer) corrected this, and it does put out a fully J1772 compliant pilot.
