It sounds like they really cheaped out on their disconnect. It is not a proper fuse. No safety agency would accept a fuse built like this.

The type of disconnect they are using is also dangerous if you use their batteries in series. The first disconnect to open sees the full pack voltage across its connection. If it's more than about 36v, it can strike an arc that *will not stop* until a considerable gap is burned.

The proper way to do this is with some kind of current-carrying metal link that melts when the current is high enough for a long enough period of time (I^2T exceeds X). Or, there are a variety of circuit breaker techniques that use something like a bimetal disk that "pops" to the opposite state to open a contact.
