Hi David,
this is recent news in Canada.

New motor vehicle sales, February 2026
Released: 2026-04-16
There were 124,004 new motor vehicles sold in Canada in February,
decreasing 0.9% from February 2025. In dollar terms, sales remained
relatively stable, decreasing less than 0.1% in February 2026 compared
with one year earlier. Over the same period, sales of new passenger cars
fell by 3.8%, while sales of new trucks (-0.5%) saw a smaller decline.
On February 16, 2026, the federal government launched the Electric
Vehicle Affordability Program, providing incentives of up to $5,000 for
battery electric vehicles and $2,500 for plug-in hybrid vehicles to
support emissions reduction. In the same month, 12,626 new zero-emission
vehicles (ZEVs) were sold, an increase of 47.2% from one year earlier.
New ZEVs comprised 10.2% of total new motor vehicles sold, compared with
6.9% in February 2025.

Box score: total light vehicle sales DOWN 1% YOY. EV sales were UP 47%
YOY for the same period (Feb. 2026) EV sales were about 10% of total
vehicle sales.
With the prospect of up to 50,000 Chinese-origin EVs to be available in
Canada in the next year, that could also boost sales numbers.

Subject: [EVDL] EV sales increase?

Just wondering if anyone has evidence of a recent increase in EV sales in the
US. Sales fell pretty sharply after the tax credit was nuked.
I've read that the big leaps in petroleum prices - and in some places
outright shortages - caused by the mideast mess are boosting EV sales
everywhere in the world. But none of the articles has cited any real EV sales
data.
One possible exception is this piece
https://insideevs.com/news/793207/hyundai-ceo-evs-gas-prices-march-2026/
... or maybe not, since lots of factors can affect EV sales.
So far I've seen no official reports from the EU either, though I've picked
up a few anecdotes. In the last 2 weeks we've had more people ask us about
our EV than in about the last 6 months.
I've also noticed that the used EV stock at the Renault dealer in the next
town over is way down. Six months ago they had a couple dozen off-lease EVs
waiting for buyers, who were mostly lining up at the new-car desk for the
fast-selling new R5 retro-EV. Now they're down to their last Dacia Spring,
still a pretty decent deal at under 10k euros for a 2023 model with 23k km on
the odo.
Have you noticed anything similar in the US?
