Well that was what I was saying about how in the past civilisations have
risen and fallen. That's how it used to happen - but having a (more or
less) global civilisation makes it hard to move to the next valley and
start again.

As for the Medieval system, we've invented, or rather reinvented democracy
since then, which was (in my opinion) a jump out of the system of
hereditary privilege. (Maybe we can go further, maybe using the internet...)
