Victor Stenger wrote in his Scientific American essay of how physicists are "doing" metaphysics even if they don't realize it. What Victor Stenger called "platonism": Physicists find some model that "works". And then they make make truth statements in the terminology of the vocabulary (e.g. "quantum states") of that model which claims the actual reality (existence) of entities those terms refer to.
