There are two major problems with this analogy.
The first is that evolution is open source. The data will always be
fairly easy to get to using open source code. If you need to access the
evolution data, there is open source code you can link to.
The more important point is that the data is not intended as an
interchange format. You often send .doc files to others or save them.
However, evolution uses the standard VCard format for all interchange. If
you send a card to someone else or if you export the data, it exports as a
VCard. The evolution data is only meant for internal use.
