Platform Independence. The guy who started this came from Windows. You can run Evo under Solaris, or umpteen Linux distros. And you don't need to run it under Gnome. LPRng doesn't use printcap for config info. There are lots of reasons why there is no simple answer to do what you suggest. Would it be a good idea? Hell yeah.
