I used Arcserve for years with Exch 5.5 and it worked fine for me. We're on Backup Exec now (different job) and it works OK too. Both have their quirks and flaws, but both will perform adequate backups and restores. I don't do brick-level backups, though. Not really recommended... I think it's a personal preference, really, although I haven't seen Arcserve for about 18 months, so I don't know what the latest iteration is like...
