Just in case nothing works, or as a stopgap, there's this wonderful free
utility KnockOut, that will cleanly shut down Outlook and or Word:

Does the user have XP SP2 on her PC by any chance? If so, is the
firewall turned on? If so, try adding an exception for Outlook.exe file.

Does the user by any chance use Outlook 2002 or earlier at the office?
This
problem is known to happen when OL2K2 and pre-2K3  are connected to the
same
mailbox.  If upgrade is not an option, there are some workarounds
available.

Another possible cause of this could be Symantec antivirus, particularly
the
consumer versions.  I've found that eradicating Symantec-consumer and
replacing it with the Corporate edition can cure it.

Hi all

I spent all weekend trying to fix this issue and I'm stumped,

USER has
XP home
OUTLOOOK 2003  (rpc over http)

Ost slightly over a gig,

Whe she closes outlook  it will not end the process , keeps running till
you
task mgr it.

Here's what I tried

Deleted profile -no avail
Deleted OST -no avail

Deleted uninstalled out look, reinstalled - no avail

Detect and repair , no-avail

Scanpst no -avail

Cahed mode -no avail

Non-cached mode - still no luck

When I create a pop accounts it  works fine,

NOTE*  here at the office she has no issues at all opening & closing
otulook
