Ummm, I'm the original poster, and we used VMS Mail, and PMDF PINE on VAX/VMS then Alpha/VMS, before switching to Exchange 5.5, and I supported all that. I don't script in PERL, but given enough time (haha), there are a couple of guys on staff that could manage it. But, I doubt they would either have or want to use the time necessary. The original request came to me from my boss (a former student of mine, BTW), who was hoping for a cheap, maybe even free Exchange reporting tool, kinda like SpiceWorks is for monitoring servers/ad/etc. Like most everyone else in IT, we're overworked and underpaid, and still have to respond to client requests as if we weren't.
