with the pix, create access lists to deny POP3 and IMAP connections. you
might also like to create internal (shadow) DNS entries for popular
web-based email services like hotmail. create a zone for hotmail.com and
point the www host at a page saying 'sorry, you don't use hotmail in work
time!'. couple this with some access lists in the pix preventing users from
keying an IP address into the browser. works pretty good.

as for dialup users, yes they might want pop3, but since they will be
dialing in on PPP and getting an IP from the pool of addresss you specify on
the access router, you can configure further access lists on the pix to
allow pop3 etc just for these addresses.
