You punched a peeve. After supporting over 100 Windows home users a weekend for the last eight months, I can tell you, they updated from windows update or the 'update alert' and kept up with the updates until the computer started giving Exception OE's out the wazoo.
So then they 'rebooted' (user-speak for "used the rescue cd") to get their machine to start working again and now refuse to do any updates because they discovered what they think are more problems with Microsofts patches than with getting infected with a virus. When pressed on the issue (I'm a security freak) they all comment that "they never keep anything important documents on the computer anymore" because the keep having to 'reboot' it. I mention to them that they should be concerned about the rest of the internet because their DSL connections are flooding other users. They couldn't care less, "not my problem". "So what if I have to rebuild it every 90 days, sure beats crashing every single day because of some 'update'." This isn't just a few users. Nathan Black p.s. I do part time Internet consulting with a U.S. ISP with over 130,000 users, on average I speak to 100 users a weekend with about 80% expressing the above attitude. 95% of WinME users express their frustration. And try explaining why Windows XP that they just bought needs 'security updates' (besides the fact that the Connexant modem that came with the system, will only keep them connected for less than 10 minutes.... sheesh > -----Original Message----- > From: John Matteson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Monday, December 03, 2001 9:19 AM > To: Exchange Discussions > Subject: RE: Badtrans and SirCam > > > I wasn't talking about CORPORATE users.
