Let us all repeat the refrain so oft heard on this list: There is no M: drive. It does not exist. It is a figment of Microsoft's imagination.
If you have succeeded in making a file level backup using the M: drive, then please count yourself lucky. Arcserve, being a CA product and not worth the money the company used to press the CD, has a habit of corrupting databases when used in a normal mode of operation, mainly with an Exchange agent when backing up Exchange databases. That you used it in a strange and twisted fashion, and succeeded in not corrupting your mailboxes straight away, only means that the good server farie was looking in your direction and took pity on you. If, by some means, you actually get the restore to work, please write down, verbatim, how you did this, post it to the list and contact CA, cause they too will be interested in how you got their product to work properly. Now, if you have backed up the files, and are restoring them to a completely different area, outside of the Exchange server, you will need to inspect each file to ensure that it has been restored correctly. If I had backed up the M drive to a tape, then I selected to restore the Public Folders\Sellafield Calendar\*.EML to a folder on my PC. Then I recreated the Sellafield Calendar public folder manually, and dragged all the EML files from my PC into the Sellafield Calendar via Outlook. That would destroy all my users mailboxes? Or should I say there is a small risk of this happening? If that is the case, I don't know if it is or isn't, then I shall refrain from using it at all :o -----Original Message----- From: John Matteson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 02 June 2003 17:37 To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Backing up the M Drive Only if you enjoy being the center of attention of a mob of angry users bent on causing you pain, lots and lots of pain for destroying their mailboxes. However, if you insist on this masochistic path, jab yourself in the eye with a red-hot fireplace poker and you will experience the same sort of pain, but your mailbox data will remain intact.
