Is it possible you are "black listed" in an ISP on the route??

Robert,
A. Can you send to other users at that domain?
B. Have you sent an email to the postmaster of that domain asking for
insight into their error message?

Subject: RE: Problem sending to particular domain (RCPT TO:)
I am still trying to troubleshoot sending a message from exchange to a
customer.
1. They have a valid address and domain name.
2. I can send from Hotmail.
3. They can send to me.
4. I can not reply or send new mail to them.
ERROR: The recipient name is not recognized.
I can start a Telnet session to the remote mailserver. I Can say Helo,
and receive HELP. When I try to send a message via telnet I get as far
as:
RCPT TO:<username@domainname>
Then I get this error:
550 <username@Domainname>... Relaying is denied
If I can get this far from a command prompt on my Exchange server, why in
the heck can't I send a message to it? Anymore tips out there? By the
way, the suggestions that were provided yesterday were excellent! Thank
you very much.

Syntax error sound like you're not entering it right.
Are you entering RCPT TO:user@domain ?

When I try to enter the recipient I get:
Syntax error in parameters scanning "RCPT". Is that me screwing up or can
it not resolve the name?
This is great stuff, very interesting! :-)

Not all servers will respond to a vrfy. Some admins will turn it off to
keep
the spammers from using it to find valid addresses. After you enter the
HELO, you should be able to do mail from: rcpt to: and data commands to
send
a test message to the user.

I can telnet to the problem domain from the Exchange Server. (It replies
to
a HELO)
Does the VRFY command check email addresses at a particular domain? I
tried
VRFY username@domainname but that came up bad even when I tried a known
good domain. I don't think I am using the VRFY command correctly.

Have you tried sending mail the this recipient manually (telnet to port
25)
from your Exchange server?

Subject: Problem sending to particular domain
I had a curious problem dropped in my lap today. One of my users needs to
send mail to a new customer. When ever we send mail to this user, we get
the following error from Exchange:
The Following recipient(s) could not be reached:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] < mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
>
< mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >
> on 8/27/01 3:25 PM
The recipient name is not recognized.
What I have checked:
1. It is a valid username and domain name.
2. I can send to it from hotmail.
3. I have same problem from multiple Outlook Profiles.
4. I can ping the problem domain from the exchange server.
5. There is no custom recipient on the server that corresponds to either
the username or domain name.
Exchange 5.5 SP3
Any suggestions on what path I should follow to start narrowing the
problem
down?
