I realize you're talking about 5.5, however Exchange 2000 supports VSAPI 2.0 which doesn't require MAPI to scan emails. Any and all emails are scanned before entering the information store. Since switching from Exchange 5.5 to 2000 SP1 w/ Norton AV for MSE Version 2.5 (build 11) I haven't had any problems.
I used to get a lot of quarantines of emails from unknown sender to unknown recipient, which I don't get anymore. :) Trend and Sybari also get great reviews. > This message is in MIME format.
