Thanks Carol, and all. I realised, thanks to your suggestions that there was no entry for the Exchange Server on our DNS and so I added it and all was fine. Can now connect to Exchange mailbox fine.

You can try adding an entry for the Exchange server in your lmhosts file, however I have never had any luck using that over a RAS/VPN connection. Remember the lmhosts file only loads at boot up, so reboot before you try again. Are you using Windows 2000 for your RAS server. If so, on the RAS server do you have "Enable IP Routing" selected on the IP tab of the Properties for the server in Win2K Routing and Remote Access. This is required in order for RAS/VPN clients to get WINS and DNS servers from the DHCP server on the network. Also, try this after making the DUN connection and authenticating to the domain. From a command prompt: \\net use \\%ExchangeServerNetbiosName%\ipc$ user:domain name\username Then try to open Outlook.
