I work with a lot of people who rent apartments centrally for around $1,500 and
having seen some of them, I know that many foreigners get ripped off b going
through certain agencies.
One agency shows an apartment for $3,000 to someone - another almost identical
would go for $1,500. Inflation effects all apartments.....the ones for $3,000
too!
I helped one friend find an apartment last week and was really impressed with
what he got for $2,000 - even a small jacuzzi.
Please don't try and tell us that the bargains are too difficult to find - they
really are quite easy to find. I saw three or four apartments before I found
the one I'm in (near Novi Arbat) and my friend found his apartment after seeing
just a few.
PS - I sold my car within a few days and the purchaser told me he would have
paid more. If people pay the prices, then there's a market for it - but that
doesn't mean that there aren't good deals to be had.

U can be "clever" and lucky to get "siprisingly" nice 1 room apart for 1.5k
after 3-4 months search, but inflation and other factors will make it 2K very
soon.
You know yourself that all prices here are unreasonable. I remember you were
selling your car at a rather high price.

Just because you don't know the real-estate market, don't insult someone else
please.
If you are clever and a bit lucky, you can get somewhere surprisingly nice for
$1.5k. I know this for a fact.
It might be more difficult without an agency but it's more than possible.
