Let's not forget that those getting salaries in rubles are now having to pay a lot more rubles for their $ denominated rents too.
$3,000 was 69,000 rubles not long ago. $3,000 is 90,000 rubles now!!!! A hell of a lot more. Moscow Times article Hi Jessica, I can tell you that my colleague's landlord increased his rent from $3000 to $3800 in November with the argument that the recession would make less people afford to buy and hence would rent instead so rental prices should increase! My colleague hardly agreed and found another apartment, better standard and the same size for $2600. The landlord never imagined that they would actually move and quickly dropped his price back to $3000; too late. The apartment is still on the market from what I know.
