I currently live at Slavyansky Bulvar in a two room very "savok"
apartment. It's about 43 sq. m. I pay 28,000 rubles per month for it,
and rent out the second room to another person. At the time, it was an
excellent price. Tonight I'm going to look at a 1 room flat, 4 minutes
walk from Kievskaya, 42 sq. m, with "Evroremont", all furniture and
appliances for 16,000. I think this is a good indication of what's
happening in the market. When I was looking for a flat last year, I
couldn't find any one-room apartments in reasonable areas for less than
23,000.

Also, a buddy of mine managed to negotiate a rent decrease for his flat
at Filevsky Park. Not sure of the financial details.

Times article

Hi Jessica,

I can tell you that my colleague's landlord increased his rent from
$3000 to $3800 in November with the argument that the recession would
make less people afford to buy and hence would rent instead so rental
prices should increase! My colleague hardly agreed and found another
apartment, better standard and the same size for $2600. The landlord
never imagined that they would actually move and quickly dropped his
price back to $3000; too late. The apartment is still on the market from
what I know.

Hello Expats!

This is Jessica with The Moscow Times.

I am writing an article on how the crisis has affected prices for Moscow
apartment rentals. Have any of you asked your landlords to lower the
rent, in connection with general market prices falling, salary or
housing allowance cuts?

Has anyone had to move out and find a cheaper apartment in recent
months?

Has anyone recently rented as apartment (either econ-class, Soviet, or
luxury) for a large discount?

Any information you could provide will make my story much more
interesting! Please e-mail at [email protected] or call me at the
office at 234 3223 ex. 4355.

Thanks!

Jessica
