My son has both Russian and American passports. When we leave Russia - we
show his Russian passport at immigration, if they ask we show the American
one, they don't even ask generally. At airline counter they need and always
ask for the US passport as they are responsible that each passenger has
proper docs to enter the destination country. In the US they don't care as
long as his US passport is valid.

Dear Lada

The situation is a little bit different, russian people can take another
one citizenship, instead of foreigners who cannot take the russian,
because it is required from the RF (Отказ я имею ввиду).
Many russians
who have italian citizenship can use both passport when they pass
through the russian custom. But the situation may be really different
with a US citizen..

Regards
Massimo

actually this is not 100% right... when flying from germany to russia the
border control checks your passport for a valid visa - either for where u
go to or where u from... so showing your russian passport u MUST have a
german visa /showing your german passport u MUST have a russian one. They
double or even tripple check because the're held responsible if u arrive with
no
valid visa and sent back...

There is no reason to present the US passport when departing Russia except
at the airline ticket counter. Passport control does not care if you have
a visa or not for your destination. They are only concerned that you have a
right to leave Russia.
When you arrive in the US, they only care that you have a right to enter
so all that is necessary is a US Passport, green card or US visa. You don’t
need to show a Russian passport.

This question may border on the idiotic, but when you leave Russia using
your Russian passport, which passport do they stamp-- your Russian, your
US or both?
