Dear all,
The British embassy website has been updated with info for stranded
passengers and as far as I am aware there are staff from the emb at
the FMS building to assist with the paperwork and extension procedure
for non Russian speakers.
They are also in touch with various Brits who have phoned the embassy
to ask for help, so that is always a second option if the website
doesn't help.
Good luck to anyone trying to get back!!

Dear Expat list,
I am posting here information for everyone to benefit (where
possible). My brother was in the above
situation, and we are working through the process, however I am more
than sure that there are several
other people in a similar situation - hence the motivation for my
posting.
The most productive advice I have found is the following from the
british business club, and we have
obtained a letter from a very efficient British Airways employee
confirming that my brother was on the
flight on Monday evening that was cancelled, and that is the reason
for him outstaying his visa period.
Now we have to face the FMS to see what they say!
GOOD Luck to everyone else who finds themselves in a similar
situation!

"We have just received the following information from the British
Embassy with regards to people who
currently find themselves with invalid Visa and registration
documents in Russia due to the current
closure of airspace situation in the UK and parts of northern Europe.
The Federal Migration Services (FMS) have actioned the following,
given the extenuating circumstances and
in-line with other European Migration services.
All person affected by the current closure of airspace and whom had
confirmed bookings that have been
cancelled due to this situation may go to the FMS office at 42
Pokrovka, Moscow. Please go to Window No.
2, collect a form for extension of your invalid visa, or visa that
will run out in the nearest future and
make application for an extension.
The FMS say that for all applications for VISA extension due to the
severe disruption, and that are
completed and with all relevant documentation, IE proof of ticket
being cancelled, will be issued with a
10 day VISA extension, Free of Charge, which should provide enough
time for the situation to clear and re-
book flights out.
We hope that this advice works and still suggest that you keep
looking at the British Embassy Web-Site for
any further up-dates.
Regards
The British Business Club"
