Tried this on [Newbie] but got no response. I've checked the DHCP,
network, and SMB How-To's and several www sites also.

I've installed Mandrake Linux 6.0 on a notebook with a pc card network
adapter. The local network uses DHCP and I've configured this using
linuxconf. Basic network connect is working; I browsed the linuxmandrake
pages, downloaded the 2.2.9-27 kernel update, searched the archives for
this mail list, etc. Attempting to configure Samba, however, I get

" Get_Hostbyname: Unknown host myhost.my.work.domain" ( with real host and
domain name).

Sure enough, "ping myhost" and " ping myhost.my.work.domain" can not
determine myhost's ip address. Can't statically put it into /etc/hosts of
course, since DHCP will give me a different one on a later reboot.

Any advice or tips?

Thanks,

Karl Rasmussen
