It sounds as though you have chosen a high security level setting and
as a result can't execute startx as your user. You can verify this
simply by starting an xwindow session as root, if all goes well when you
use startx as root you will need to change the security level of your
system using DrakConf. Note the command DrakConf with uppercase D and C
then change the security level to suit your needs... a standard system
is level 3.
