So stick with 7.0, then.

Why insist on switching to 7.1? Can you tell me why that is necessary?
Is there something you need in the 7.1 release that doesn't exist in the
7.0 release, or are you just suffering from upgradeitis (a Microsoft
created affliction, I should point out)?

If you aren't moving to 7.1 because there's something you need in it,
then don't. If there is something you need, stick with 7.0 and get the
packages for the 7.1 application you want.

Don't assume that a new version is better - case in point, your Windows
2000. Even if a new version has "more features", do you need them?
Finally, if you must move to 7.1, then be prepared to move things
around. Windows of any flavour doesn't like competing with operating
systems from different vendors. That means you might have to back things
up and start over (That's assuming that you are using fully
standards-compliant hard drives).

Believe me -- Windows is no more accommodating (in fact, it's usually
less) than Linux.
