I had problems with panics and crashes until I compiled 2.2.16 from kernel.org). Xconfig will have things greyed out if you disable "experimental" code. This is set very early in the config process (first three or so feature groups). > Also, despite selecting "automount", it still > won't handle supermount. Am I missing a step somewhere or is this kernel have > those problems? If supermount won't work it's likely that you missed something in your configuration -- is automount part of the kernel, or did you compile it as a module? Is it dependent on any other modules or kernel features? Take a close look... and read the help information for the automount feature. It's easy to miss things when you are configuring a kernel for compilation. I've inadvertently introduced many problems when I wasn't careful about my configuration. What always works for me is a slow and steady approach, taking care to look through each feature group and making sure I know exactly why I am setting something a certain way. Good luck, Stephen
