MAndrake comes with ide-scsi support compiled in the kernel. Add 'append="hdx=ide-scsi"' to your /etc/lilo.conf and run 'lilo -v' or to your /boot/grub/menu.lst. If you want to compile your own kernel, don't take out ATAPI support !
