No man of info entries for this in Mandrake 8. What is it for? When I
execute it, nothing happens for a few seconds, then a SCSI parity error
flashes on screen (no CD in drive, install on IDE HD), then prompt
returns.

The reason I tried this is I've tried installing both 8.0 & 8.1 a dozen
times, always getting an aborted X configuration. This past installation
try, the logging tty displayed the following:

"Warning: server SVGA is not available (should be in
/mnt/usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86) at /usr/bin/perl-install/Xconfigurator.pm at
line 385"

I went to the prompt tty and looked to verify that neither a file nor a
directory by that name existed.

On reboot I did 'rpm -qa | grep XFree' and saw that not all 4.0.3 rpm's
had been installed. I don't know how to figure out which are necessary,
but I'm sure the one with "server" in the name amongst the filenames in
the RPMS directory must be required, but was not installed. I rpm -i'd
the "server" and then ran XFdrake, and as indicated above got no more
result than the error message.

I did 'XFree86 -configure' and the test suggested, successfully as near
as I could tell, then copied the output file to /etc/X11/XF86Config-4,
which existed at zero bytes at the end of the install.

If I do 'startx' I get:

xauth: creating new authority file /root/.Xauthority
execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 2)
giving up
xinit: No such file in directory (errno 2) unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): server error

Any suggestions?
