A far simpler way is to merely disable the "graphic boot" in the
Mandrake Control Panel.

This does not remove Aurora, and you can re-enable it at any time.

|Two ways I know of.
|
|1-rpm -e Aurora
|2-edit /etc/lilo.conf or /boot/grub/menu.lst as applicable and 
|change the instance of vga=788 to vga=normal on the menu 
|choice you are using to boot.
|
|Also, even when Aurora is hiding the messages during boot, 
|when boot is complete you can still find those messages in /var/log.
