I have also used reiserfs extensively and it has worked great. The problems a lot of people have with it are not with reiser, but with software that assumes too much about how the fs works. These bits of software (NFS/qmail etc) flush their buffers and do not wait for this to finish before trying to read back from the disk if i remember correctly. They really are very badly written for what only gains a few percent performance on ext2, but screws filesystems that dont work in exactly the same way as ext2.
