I have usual external modem, motherboard on i815EP, Celeron 1000, video ATI Radeon - no exotic hardware... When modem hang up the line it doesn't course hanging up system - then I can kill pppd or turn off modem... I have no ideas... I had to return to LM8.1 :( Nikolay V. Kursov
