Strange, not on my system. I have a self-compiled KDE 3.0.2, so my console is konsole. The used su is sh-utils-2.0.11-8mdk su calls bash version bash-2.05-16mdk which calls mc with version mc-4.5.55-7mdk mc is linked with libgpm.so.1 => /usr/lib/libgpm.so.1 (0x4001e000) libglib-1.2.so.0 => /usr/lib/libglib-1.2.so.0 (0x40024000) libext2fs.so.2 => /lib/libext2fs.so.2 (0x4004a000) libcom_err.so.2 => /lib/libcom_err.so.2 (0x40060000) libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40063000) libncurses.so.5 => /lib/libncurses.so.5 (0x4019f000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000) which translates to libgpm1-1.19.6-3mdk libglib1.2-1.2.10-4mdk libext2fs2-1.27-1.1mdk glibc-2.2.4-25.1mdk libncurses5-5.2-23mdk glibc-2.2.4-25.1mdk But on my system this does NOT hang. Can you look at the versions of your RPMs? But others, e.g. icpcon, hang nevertheless. Can it be that something doesn't propagate a needed signal? Something may be - su when you do su as you mentioned - one of xinetd in.telned login when you telnet into your own box Greetings, Holger -- MN-Logistik GmbH http://www.mn-logistik.de Holger Schurig Dieselstr. 18 61191 Rosbach v.d.Höhe Tel: 06003/9141-0 Fax: 06003/9141-49
