A new panel will appear blank, but these can be added to _any_ panel by: i. right mouse button on panel - Add to Panel - Gnome Menu (which adds a 'foot' icon which pops up a combination of the Mandrake and Actions menus); ii. right mouse button on panel - Add to Panel - Utility - Workspace Switcher.
