This is offtopic, but, this answer is for sure late as well !!!! ;-))))

Not long ago a similar thing happed to me:
- From DOS I could only see drive C: and all partitions were <= 2G
- As I had a MDK9.0 in another partition I decided to do a "mkfs -t
vfat" to the "D: partition" so as to convert it from NTFS to FAT32. It
wouldn't work. Finally I found that WindowsXP installation damaged my
partition table so it still said D: was NTFS while it already was FAT32
(even had copied some files from linux in it).
- Finally (all from linux) I did a copy of partition table just in case
"dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/fd0 bs=512 count=64" and restored an old one
from lilo boot copy: "dd if=mbr of=/dev/hda bs=1 count=64 skip=446
seek=446". Everything went OK again and had again a D: with FAT32
filesystem and the files I had copied from linux!!

If MBR/partition table was the guilty, I would read man info about dd,
parted and gpart, and of course get parted boot disk from internet and
backup my own partition table, just in case.

Anyhow, I wish everything is already OK by now.
