Actually, for many years 1-2-3 format was the standard. Recently my daughter sent a file in early 1-2-3 format to an accountant, thinking that any spreadsheet could read it, and he didn't even try. He just said he could not be expected to chase after an early version of Lotus 1-2-3! It's amazing how ignorant some people can be. I still think Excel would have opened it.
