Hi and thanks to all, I tried all your suggestions, but even forcing usbmouse to load the mouse is not recognized yet.
BTW - I tried to directly connect a USB mouse to a free USB port and X works fine with both mice (the touchpad and the external one), but no luck when the mouse is plugged in through the PS/2 to USB adapter.
