Well, I've been running 0.24mdk on two machines for a couple days now and
have yet to see this error.

Can't tell you here... mixing cooker and stable is not recommended, nor
supported, and I won't be upgrading my system to rule that out.  I have my
doubts that it's arts, but I also really don't see how it could be the
kernel... especially if you boot into 0.18mdk and still have it.
