When Truman was chosen, fear and trembling overcame him and then never really left. He knew, based on his talents, that a thousand people were more qualified, and he said so. Palin would do well to model that approach. Of course the irony re. Truman is that if Wallace had remained in office after Roosevelt died he would have appointed Harry Dexter White to Paulsen's job.
