Meditation means simply to thinks things over. TM is based on thinking, and hardly a person could be found that doesn't think. Meditation is just what intelligent people do!
According to Maharishi, TM is the passing of the cognitive attention from one level of consciousness to another, sutler level of consciousness. This passing back and forth between the gross and finer levels of consciousness is what makes possible the opportunity for transcending. First, there is just thought; then the bija-mantra occurs spontaneously, just like any other thought. In TM, when the thought process reaches the finest level of awareness, thought drops off and the practitioner is left all by his Self. How to Be? Stop being active, but don't become passive. That is, stop being active, but don't fall asleep. Just Be. Enjoy the pure consciousness. Just be aware of being aware. Just go in and meditate, then come out and radiate! It's that simple.
