Well, according to Maadhava VidyaaraNya's Shankara-dig- vijaya, the Great Shankara himself utilized "cittasya para-shariiraaveshaH" (entering another's body, III 39) to get "kaama-suutric" knowledge (in the body of a recently deceased king, "abusing" his harem). I seem to recall Shankara also flew yogicly with his pupils over some mountains to a near-by village. But I'm not absolutely sure about that.
