It isn't that much different than what people in the Netherlands get for THEIR 
socialized medicine:

they can choose to pay about $150/month to a private carrier for insured care 
or they can chose to not pay anything and and be required to pay all costs at 
the door, or if they can't afford any care at all, they get emergency-room type 
services.
