cardemaister: > > Aryan, "rigvedic" (Arctic Home in the > > Vedas...)... > > According to Witzel, the linguist, the Indo-Aryans moved into an already populated 'Dravidian' speaking area in South Asia, after the oldest parts of the Rig Veda were composed (circa 1500 BCE).
So, some geneticists, such as Cavalli-Sforza, believe the Dravidians were preceded in South Asia by an Austro-Asiatic people, and were followed by Indo-European-speaking migrants sometime later. Cavalli-Sforza classifies 'Indians' as being genetically Caucasian, with Indians about three times closer to West Europeans than to East Asians! Go figure! Coon, the anthropologist, wrote argued that Ethiopia in Northeast Africa and India in South Asia represented the outermost peripheries of the Caucasoid race.
