Les take another look. The current economic debacle began at the collapse of
the housing market due to the failures of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which
Bush and Republican senators ,as early as 2001, warned were going to cause
economic problems.  Bawny Fwank refused to do anything regarding the problem
and said that everything would be OK. Banks continued to give sub-prime loans
to unqualified buyers out of fear of being sued and accused of racial
discrimination. Banks bundled the loans and passed them on to various insurers,
ala musical chairs. until the whole system collapsed.< The House of
Representatives changed hands in 2006 due to disgust over excessive spending on
the part of Republicans ,accused of outrageous deficit spending, averaging in
the range of 300 billion or so which included spending after 9/11, new
government agencies, two wars and Katrina. The new House, lead by nun-other
than Ms. Nancy, began to spend even more. The House is where
all spending begins. Bush had previously asked for a line item veto but
it was  denied because the courts determined that the Congress has a right to
authorize spending, which Bush respected. Now we have deficits in the trillions
each year because the Senate refuses to adopt a budget and negotiate a balance
with the House. The only Democratic solution is to tax the *rich* at Clinton
levels which won't come even close to narrowing the current deficits levels and
will guarantee fewer jobs, compounding the economic collapse. We don't have a
revenue problem, we have a spending problem. Buying votes with more government
give aways, to stay in power, is compounding the problem. Once taxes are raised
on the *rich* and it becomes apparent that that doesn't solve the problem, then
taxing the middle class at even higher rates will be the next solution offered.
Enjoy whatever you have right now because you're about to lose it.

Les see - the economic (including the housing debacle) began on G W Bush's
watch - gazillions of dollars also wasted by Dick Cheney funneling all the no
bid contracts for the so-called rebuilding of Afghanistan and Iraq to his
Haliburton friends - so which recent history would that be? Abe Lincoln's time?
Teddy Roosevelt?

BTW, the *white folk*, as you say, has been responsible for the best economy
