For some reason I neglected yesterday to mention that the FX series "The Bridge" debuted last night. Once again FX brings us another great series and this one is about two police detectives one from El Paso, Sonya North, played by Diane Kruger and one from Juarez, Marco Ruiz, played by Demian Bichir, pairing to investigate the murder of a woman judge whose body is found on a bridge between Mexico and the US. I liked the first episode and hope they can keep up this pace. Check your local provider for repeats and VOD.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2406376/ I was hoping to catch a much touted indie film "Starlet" on Netflix before watching "The Bridge". I had tried the prior evening but Netflix seems to have the "summer vacation blues" probably from too many kids out of school watching Netflix in the evening. "Starlet" is presented in HD and the best bit rate I could get out of Netfilx was 1.2 mbps which give one an SD picture like you get on a 240p YouTube video. Normal would be around 10 mbps and no problem for HD. I don't want to blame the kids since it's the lack of Netflix building out and they're probably being cautious. If it is the ISP then they need to be investigated by congress. We know the telecoms aren't happy with us watching Netflix instead of their lousy streaming service. Anyway "Starlet" is about a young woman played by Dree Hemingway (Mariel's daughter) who befriends an elderly woman after finding some cash in a thermos she buys at the woman's garage sale. This is a very heart warming story and something that FFL'ers would like and not syrupy. Note I've only seen about 40 minutes of the film thus far because I could only get a decent stream at 11:30 PM. Also this film is not rated because of explicit scenes (and indies don't like to pay the MPAA fee unless the distributor wants to pick it up). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2035630/ http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Starlet/70234491
