Arizona and Florida were hardest hit in 2008/2009 when the real estate market tanked and because of that those two states have the biggest influx of pets into shelters and animals left behind at foreclosed houses. I read an article yesterday about Homestead Florida and the numbers of abandoned pets. One was at a house that used to be owned by a woman who was a dog rescuer, there were many dogs left behind :( Of course, as the article points out, the big screen TVs and jewelry, XBox game systems, etc. were not left behind, only the animals :( So, am I a bit jaded? yes, yes I am
