Richard,
a) what's the actual goal? Reduce file size? reduce bitrate? something
else?
b) you _still_ haven't posted the complete and unedited output of any
tests. Sometimes there's a small detail that very important (like the
version & age).
c) please try Bouke's suggestions and run tests without the filters
(yadif & nlmeans). Also with different values of -preset and -cfr and
see 'f' below.
c1) where did those nlmeans values come from? Are the appropriate for
the material?
c2) is the yadif filter appropriate for the material (and with the
default parameters)?
d) please read-
https://x265.readthedocs.io/en/master/lossless.html
https://community.topazlabs.com/t/h265-nvenc-lossless-output/83957
or search for "can x265 compression be lossless" and read some of the
various discussions about x265.
e) describe the source material or provide an example.
f) a stackoverflow article contains this command line:
ffmpeg -i INPUT.mkv -c:v libx265 -preset ultrafast \
-x265-params lossless=1 OUTPUT.mkv
if you want no-loss encoding, try "-x265-params lossless=0" so there's
no ambiguity.
g) ignore Harald, most of us do.
Later,
z!
