I had a duplicate made by a machine shop. They turned it out of stock 1/4
SS (no nasty marks and stains from rustable steels, etc..). You can also
find them as parts in quite a few antique stores. Once you get a new one
turned, find someone with a reproducing lathe and have them turn the base
(to fit onto the tapered spindle) then run some thread or fine twine around
the base to prevent it coming back off and jam the end under the wood.
