Hey and hi,
I'm new to fibernet, and I usually just lurk for a
couple of weeks to get the feel of the list before I
start posting. BUT, I just had to say - Great Article!
I am a kindergarten teacher and many of the
activities at school depend on volunteers (book fairs,
fund raisers, PTA events). We also have "Literacy
Grandparents" in our schools - senior citizens that
receive a tiny stipend for working with students in
our classroom - not exactly volunteers, but not
exactly paid employees either. Your article made me
aware of issues I need to keep in mind when dealing
with anyone who is kind enough to donate his or her
time in my classroom. The article also made me aware
of issues I should be asking about when I volunteer my
time. Great piece! Thanks
